Octahedral Infinity Mirror

When it comes to making patterns, three dimensions are better than two

OpenSCAD render of the octahedral infinity mirror 3D model
Originally, I designed this in Sketchup, but I later rebuilt it in OpenSCAD to fix the unplanned cable management of the first design
Close-up of the design of one of the octahedral infinity mirror vertex connectors
This is one of the vertex connectors rendered without the panels
Camera photo of a computer screen displaying the progress for the vertex connectors being printed
First time printing a model of my own design on a friend's old delta 3D printer
3D-printed vertex connectors in glossy black PLA, looking pointy AF
Think stepping on a Lego brick is painful?
Electronics components arrays on a wooden tabletop: connectors, a spool of LEDs, and some loose LEDs in baggies
Only really used the spool of LEDs in this project
Half-mirrored (spyglass) acrylic sheets
The plan was to cut 4 equilateral triangles from each of these half-mirrored (spyglass) acrylic sheets
Half-mirrored acrylic sheets with faint green lines tracing the triangles to be cut out
I used an acrylic knife to score and snap the panels along these lines
A stack of equilateral triangular half-mirrored acrylic panels surrounded by tools used in the cutting process
This is a really long caption, that should overflow the figcaption element and display ellipses instead of wrapping and extending outside the element
A partially assembled octahedron made with 3D-printed vertex connectors and half-mirrored acrylic faces
A test fitting of the glowing LED strand inside the incomplete octahedral infinity mirror
Octahedral infinity mirror glowing in gold tones in a dark room
An octahedron with half mirrored faces, reflecting and transmitting the multicolored LEDs installed internally along the edges
Octahedral infinity mirror glowing a deep blue with hints of purple in a dark room, viewed through one of the vertices
An octahedral infinity mirror with repeating patterns of glowing LEDs, reflecting internally in pinks, purples, and greens
A close-up view into the octahedral infinity mirror, with dense, geometric webs of LED reflections in deep purple with hints of green and pink
Faintly glowing green "bokeh" LED reflections inside the octahedron, with some of the black flexible PCB visible
